Everyone meet Kurt! Kurt has been with us at CFD for a year now, and is just an awesome guy to have apart of our community. Here is a few more things to read about Kurt as the Member Spotlight for the month of August.
1. Why did you start CrossFit?
I’d gotten burned out on some other more corporate fitness gyms/programs that really focused a lot just on cardio and was looking for something that incorporated more strength training.
2. What is your favorite thing about CFD?
Everyone always says “The people.”, but it’s true! The coaches are great at what they do and actually coach – providing targeted, relevant feedback and not just cheerleading. And the other members are also phenomenal – everyone is super friendly and positive, it makes coming to the gym a real pleasure. If you don’t like high fives, fist bumps, and people being genuinely happy to see you then this may not be the right gym for you. Also the Whiteboard – I love being able to see my benchmarks and track my progress over time. I’d be lying if said seeing how my performance stacks up to others doesn’t also provide motivation :). I guess that’s 2 favorite things.
3. What do you do for a living?
Service delivery manager for a multinational IT service provider. Or as my parents call it, “Something with computers”
4. What are some goals you have for yourself related to your health and fitness?
In the gym, I need to work on my overhead squats and also to get better at some of the gymnastic movements like pull-ups. Outside the gym, I’m working on being more intentional with my nutrition choices and less of a human catfish.
5. What is your favorite cheat meal?
Lasagna or pretty much any dish with meat, cheese and carbs
6. What is your favorite CrossFit movement and why?
Split jerk and not just because it has a cool name. It’s one of the more complex movements we do and you just feel like an absolute beast when you do it no matter how much weight you use. Seriously, google it and tell me you wouldn’t like to give it a try!
7. What would you tell somebody just starting out or thinking about starting CrossFit?
If you’re nervous that’s ok, everyone is at first. The programming is top notch and even if you’re intimidated by the terminology or the difficulty, the coaches are there to help you challenge yourself safely. It’s a great program no matter where you’re at on your fitness journey!
